The Journey

Our fitting process

A successful hearing aid fitting is about much more than the device itself. Here's what to expect, step by step.

1

Hearing Assessment

A comprehensive hearing test establishes the type and degree of your hearing loss — the foundation for every recommendation we make.

2

Consultation & Recommendation

We discuss your listening goals, compare suitable brands, styles and technology levels, and provide a clear written quote — including funding options.

3

Fitting & Programming

Your hearing aids are fitted, programmed to your prescription and verified. You'll learn how to wear, control, clean and care for them with confidence.

4

Follow-Up & Ongoing Care

Review appointments fine-tune your settings as you adapt. From there, we remain your ongoing partner for servicing, adjustments and support.

All Clients Welcome

Bought your hearing aids elsewhere?

You're still very welcome at Wang To Hear. We regularly help clients who purchased their hearing aids online, overseas, or from another clinic — including devices that were never properly fitted in the first place.

A hearing aid that isn't programmed to your individual hearing prescription is unlikely to give you its full benefit. We can assess your current devices, reprogram them against an up-to-date hearing test, and provide the same cleaning, servicing and repair support we offer our own fitting clients.

Please note: service fees apply for the fitting, programming and servicing of hearing aids not purchased through our clinic. We'll always explain the fees clearly before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

Good to know before your visit

  • Fitting and programming services for externally purchased devices are charged on a fee-for-service basis — contact us for current pricing.
  • A recent hearing test is needed for accurate programming. If you don't have one, we can perform an assessment at your appointment.
  • Some devices sold online or overseas use locked or proprietary software that cannot be reprogrammed by any outside clinic. We'll let you know upfront if this applies.
  • Repairs for devices under another provider's warranty may need to go back to the original supplier.
Clients who purchase their hearing aids with us receive fitting, programming and scheduled follow-up care as part of their package.

Common Questions

Fitting & services FAQ

Do I need a hearing test before a hearing aid fitting?

Yes. Hearing aids are programmed to your individual hearing prescription, so an up-to-date hearing test is essential. If you've had a comprehensive test recently, bring your results along — otherwise we can perform an assessment at our clinic.

Can you service or reprogram hearing aids I bought somewhere else?

In most cases, yes. We can fit, program, clean, service and troubleshoot most major hearing aid brands, even if they weren't purchased with us. Service fees apply, and we'll confirm the costs with you before any work begins. The main exception is devices with locked or proprietary software, which we'll identify for you upfront.

What happens at the fitting appointment?

We physically fit your hearing aids for comfort, program them to your hearing prescription, and verify the settings. You'll learn how to insert and remove them, adjust settings, connect to your phone if applicable, and clean and care for them at home. We'll also talk honestly about what to expect during your adjustment period.

How long does it take to get used to new hearing aids?

Most people need a few weeks for their brain to adjust to hearing sounds they've been missing. Wearing your hearing aids consistently is the best way to adapt. Follow-up appointments let us fine-tune the settings based on your real-world experience.

How often should hearing aids be serviced?

We generally recommend a professional clean and check every 6–12 months, along with a review of your hearing. Regular servicing helps prevent common issues like blocked filters and moisture damage, and keeps your devices performing well for longer.

My hearing aid isn't working — do I need a new one?

Not necessarily. Many issues — blocked wax filters, worn domes, moisture, or connectivity problems — can be resolved in-clinic. We'll diagnose the problem first and advise whether a simple fix, a manufacturer repair, or a replacement is the most sensible option.

Can I claim any of these services?

Possibly. Eligible Hearing Services Program and DVA clients may have fitting, maintenance and repair support included in their program. Some private health Extras policies cover audiology consultations or hearing aid repairs. We can provide itemised invoices to assist your claim — see our rebates & funding page for details.
