Custom earplugs & ear moulds in Kew, Melbourne

We take an impression of your own ear, and a laboratory builds an earpiece to that shape. Choose what you need them for and we can help match the product, fit and filter to the situation.

Appointments take about 20 minutes and always begin with an examination of your ears. Most custom products are ready in around 2–3 weeks. Prices include GST, and custom-product prices include the ear impressions required to make them.

What do you need them for?

Sleep

Sleep plugs

$219/pair

Sleepsound Extra Soft — soft, low-profile custom plugs designed to reduce environmental noise while remaining comfortable for sleep. The low profile is particularly useful for people who sleep on their side.

Optional extras

  • Handgrip+$13.50/set
  • Personalised name engraving+$25/set

Sleep plugs reduce the level of sound reaching your ears, so alarms, doorbells and other warning sounds may be harder to hear. If you need to wake reliably, consider using a vibrating or visual alarm as well.

Water

Swim plugs

From $229/pair

SwimFit — custom plugs designed to help reduce water entering the ear during swimming or showering. They may also suit people who have been advised to keep water out of the ear, including some people with grommets, perforations or recurrent outer-ear problems.

Optional extras

  • Two-colour option+$17.50/set
  • Cord and shirt clip+$13.50

No earplug can be relied on to keep water out completely. Follow your GP or ENT specialist's advice about water exposure if you have grommets, a perforation, active discharge or recent ear surgery. These are not diving products.

Music

Musicians & concerts

From $329/pair

Conventional earplugs can attenuate some frequencies more than others, which can make music and speech sound less balanced. The PACS Pro Series uses an acoustic filter designed to reduce sound while preserving a more balanced listening experience than fully occluding protection.

Optional extras

  • PACS Pro replacement filter, each+$57.50
  • PACS Pro solid insert+$25/set
  • Cord and shirt clip+$13.50
Riding

Motorcycle

$339/pair

PACS Motoplug — a low-profile custom plug specifically designed for use under a helmet, reducing the amount of bulk between the earpiece and the helmet lining.

Optional extras

  • Two-colour option+$12.50/set
  • Personalised name engraving+$25/set
Dental

Dental professionals

From $329/pair

Dental professionals are repeatedly exposed to sound from high-speed handpieces, ultrasonic scalers, suction and other equipment. Noise levels vary between instruments, equipment condition, procedure type and the way equipment is used, so the relevant risk depends on the overall exposure pattern rather than a single instrument alone.

Filtered protection is designed to preserve more speech and environmental awareness than fully occluding protection, which is often important in a clinical environment. For dental use we fit an appropriate PACS Pro configuration rather than a separate "dental" product.

  • Options can also be discussed for hygienists, assistants and technicians
  • Group impression appointments can be arranged for practices

Optional extras

  • PACS Pro replacement filter, each+$57.50
  • Personalised name engraving+$25/set
Work

Work & industrial

From $249/pair

For occupational use, protection should be selected according to the actual noise environment and the product's verified attenuation — not simply the strongest available option, because excessive attenuation can make speech and warning signals harder to hear.

Max Block is a solid custom noise plug and includes a grip. The PACS Pro Series is tested in accordance with AS/NZS 1270 and includes filtered options up to Class 5.

Optional extras

  • PACS Pro solid insert+$25/set
  • Cord and shirt clip+$13.50
Moulds

Hearing aid moulds

From $130/pair

Canal moulds in solid or vented configurations, plus full-shell, half-shell and selected RIC options.

If your current mould whistles, works loose or has become uncomfortable, we can assess whether a replacement mould or new impression may improve the fit.

IEM

Earphone & IEM sleeves

$229/pair

Custom sleeves for compatible earphones and in-ear monitors. We can also take ear impressions only, if another manufacturer is making your custom earpieces. These are not hearing-protection products by default.

  • Ear impressions only, for earpieces made elsewhere — $55

Manufacturers differ in the depth, jaw position and impression style they require. Please bring or send us their impression instructions before your appointment.

Not every optional extra is available on every product — we'll confirm what applies when you order. Wax removal may incur an additional fee if it is needed before an impression can be taken. Any additional fee is discussed with you first.

Solid or filtered?

Solid

A physical acoustic seal without a listening filter. Sound is reduced without trying to preserve a particular frequency balance. Commonly used for sleep and selected noise environments.

Filtered

An acoustic filter provides controlled attenuation while preserving more awareness of speech, music and environmental sound. Useful for musicians, dental professionals and workplaces where communication still matters.

Does custom mean more noise reduction? Not necessarily. The main advantages of a custom plug are its individual fit, consistency and comfort. How much protection it provides depends on the specific product, filter and its verified attenuation.

Common questions

Does taking an ear impression hurt?

It shouldn't. We examine your ears first, then place a soft ear block in the canal and introduce impression material that is left to set. You will usually feel pressure and a sense of fullness while it sets. Tell us straight away if anything feels sharp or painful and we'll stop.

How long do custom earplugs last?

A well-maintained custom plug can often be used for several years, depending on the material, how often it is worn, changes in ear shape and how it is cared for. The fit should be checked if the plug becomes hard, cracked, uncomfortable or stops sealing properly. Children may need replacement more often as they grow.

How do I clean custom earplugs?

Cleaning depends on the product. Solid and filtered earplugs can have different care requirements, and filtered components should not be submerged unless the manufacturer's instructions specifically allow it. We provide care instructions for your particular product at collection.

What if I have grommets, a perforation or previous ear surgery?

Tell us when you book. It does not necessarily rule out an ear impression, but the technique may need to change and in some cases we may ask for advice or clearance from your treating doctor or ENT specialist before proceeding.

Why do my own voice and chewing sound louder?

A well-sealed earplug can make internally generated sounds such as your own voice, chewing or breathing seem more noticeable. This is called the occlusion effect and is normal with many well-sealed earplugs.

Can you take ear impressions for a child?

Yes, where it is clinically appropriate and the child can comfortably cooperate with the procedure. We explain what is going to happen before we begin, and a parent or guardian can stay in the room throughout the appointment.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. If the appointment is for replacement hearing aid moulds, please bring your current hearing aids and moulds with you.
